Comments, even critical ones, are welcome. My response to your post follows:
1. The "cost" of the lowest subscription level is zero dollars. 10mb allows free users to upload 2-3 of their best songs, which is the intent. Free users can add links to 30 of their songs stored on other servers as well.
2. The fee structure you referenced is incorrect. Your post brought that to my attention, so I thank you. Free users actually get 10MB of upload space, which allows 2-3 song uploads. Subscriber level grants 40MB, and should allow for an average full album to be uploaded. The other two levels are not yet enabled, but will allow 80MB and 160MB, respectively. I'll update the information on that page today, and thanks again for pointing out an oversight on my part. Those who have signed up for free accounts already know about the Free upload space limit, as many of them have uploaded 2-3 songs at no cost.
3. There's no reason for anyone to complain about free. Free users can consider this site one more link/exposure source, if nothing more than a web link were offered.
4. I will never sanction fees for music sold on this site. In this way FGM cannot be compared to Amazon and iTunes, which both take hefty chunks of music sales.
5. If the pricing structure here doesn't work for you, don't pay. Basic membership is currently about $7.50/mo. If adding 9-10 more songs gives you $15.00/mo. worth of extra traffic to your web site and extra song sales when that feature is added, you've just doubled your money. If not, stick with Free. Those musicians who are serious about the business end of their music will know how much traffic and sales our site provides them, and will know exactly how much return on investment they're receiving.
As the OP stated, do your research.
Eric, thanks for your post. I appreciate that you're looking out for other musicians, and you've helped me uncover errors in the fee structure documentation.
